The third generation SL Mercedes was the quintessential classic mercedes. The model was constant production for fifteen years between 1974 and 1989.

Renowned for its power, safety features and classic luxury feature. the Mercedes SL was originally a racing car only but it was not long before commercial models appeared in the late 1950’s.

The origins of the term SL are unclear, although most afficiandos suggest that the the SL abbreviation originates  from the German phrase Super Leicht, although the terms Sports Leicht and Super Leicht were alternately used by Mercedes right up until 2017.
